First test ride on the new wheels and rubber

I was able to get out to Hillside Park in Elk River last night for about 45 minutes.  It was one of the only places that is dry right now.  Long drive up there but I needed to test out the rubber before trying to race it tonight at Buck Hill.

First the wheels.  Mavic Crossmax 29.They are stiffer and more responsive.  The weight loss (a bunch from the tires too) makes the bike feel like a different machine.  It is noticeable from the time I pick it up out of my truck.  I can accelerate, hop, yank around corners, climb, much easier.  I really feel quicker.
Now the tires.  Hutchinson Python 29er 2.1s.  Some of the quickness is the low rolling resistance.  These tires are fast.  They roll forward very well.  The cornering was OK but I definitely noticed the narrower width from the Karma 2.3s.  I also noticed that lack of sidewall nobbies.  The nobbies just stop on the vertical as if they didn't expect me to lay my big down into turns.  Makes me a little skittish until I get a little more ride time.  I wasn't all all pushing it--just wanted to get a feel.
Corners--pretty good.  A couple of small wash outs but I was able to correct.  After reading a bunch of negative reviews of these tires and how several guys were lossing it in corners I'm a little hesitant.  More later.
Climbing--seem OK.  Most improvement from the weight.  Seemed to spinout once in a while but nothing big.  This could also be influenced by less weight.
Ride--Descent.  Obviously less cush than the 2.3s but still comfortable.  I ran them at 28psi this first time out.  Not sure how low I can go yet before they start burping.

The real test is tonight at Buck.  I just hope I am not bleeding when I get home.
